Dummy destruction and life lessons at the Stampede’s first Farm Safety Day
By Lisette Marion, project coordinator
For more than 100 years, the Calgary Stampede has showcased our community’s western heritage, cultures and community spirit on the world stage. Those years are only possible because of the tireless work of thousands of dedicated Stampede volunteers and employees. This year, we looked at the Stampede’s story through the lens of that community, drawing on the experiences of the team whose vast contributions help us create Stampede Park as a world-class gathering place for the community.
Our great city of Calgary and surrounding communities faced another year of tough economic challenges throughout 2016. The Calgary Stampede, as a year-round organization, has equally experienced the challenges facing our community and, when we all came together to celebrate during Stampede 2016, it rained almost every day. In fact, this was the wettest Stampede since 1927!
